Bin Systems and Usage

A Bin Usage Assessment or a Bin Systems Assessment is an Entry Program, starting your site's WOW journey and qualifying your site for a Bin Materials Audit.

For Department for Education sites with the new department-provided bin systems, a Bin Usage Assessment (BUA) is a quick way to check up on contamination issues and potential causes across the four separation streams, and to explore ways to improve student ownership and responsibility for the new system. A guided walk-through of your site will allow students and WOW staff to observe contamination issues and work together to suggest changes that could improve material separation and student engagement.

For Independent and CESA sites, a Bin Systems Assessment (BSA) is a quick and comprehensive way to get advice, recommendations, and new ideas for improving resource management systems and reducing waste to landfill. A guided walk-through of your site will allow students and WOW staff to observe existing systems and work together to suggest changes that could make more effective systems. WOW staff can also provide advice for starting new collection systems or managing material streams.

The provided resources will give you more information about the overall BUA/BSA process (including how you can book one for your site), as well as all the details you need if you are interested in conducting a DIY Bin Systems Assessment with your class.
